Classical Guitar [UK]: Lorenzo Micheli in Dublin 2006

The musician of the Festival [3rd Waltons Guitar Festival of Ireland, Dublin] for me was Lorenzo Micheli. His masterclasses were a delight and his concert was a sublime mix of virtuosity and sensitive musical application. Sor, Barrios, Llobet and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, especially the Tedesco Sonata op. 77, were played with an almost transcendental style; after finishing a piece Micheli would rise and take a gentle bow, holding the guitar to his chest like the most treasured item in the world, a precious child perhaps. I also discovered he is a fan of Pat Metheny, which made me warm to him even more.
