"There was only one concert on the Saturday schedule, since the day also included the final round of four contestants in the ICAC, preceded by the finals of the the International Ensemble Competition. But this sole concert was a very fine one. Simply invoking the name of SoloDuo, consisting of Lorenzo Micheli and Matteo Mela, portends a concert of state-of-the-art duo plying. Everything was a gem: the Debussy Petite Suite, Piazzolla Tango Suite, and their miraculous version of Beethoven’s Sonata Pathétique. A handful of other duos are on this level now, but none are better."

Most classical guitar recitals are one-player-on-the-stage affairs, so SoloDuo’s excellent recital on the evening of Saturday, June 4 in Mixon Hall at CIM was a double-your-pleasure, double-your-fun occasion. Italian guitarists Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli wowed and delighted a sold-out crowd with intelligent and probing performances of arrangements of music by Domenico Scarlatti, Vincenzo Bellini, J.S. Bach, Claude Debussy, and Astor Piazzolla.

Italian guitarists Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli, who’ve won an international reputation as SoloDuo, brought musical enchantment to the recital hall at UW–Milwaukee on Tuesday evening. The UWM Classical Guitar Organization and the Peck School of the Arts sponsored the concert, and host René Izquierdo, director of classical guitar, welcomed a small but avid audience for an evening of extraordinary virtuosity.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — A single virtuosic guitarist is one thing, but when you put two together — like Italian guitarists Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli — the result is more than just a dynamic partnership.
